Code 543 retrieved....Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Fault.

i recieved my obd-1 code scanner in the mail today and hooked it up to my 94 ranger.

for the last month, my CEL has been coming on for a minute, then goes off for a minute, then comes on again and repeats every couple minutes.

I got a code of 543.......

Code Reader Manual says.....Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Fault.
Haynes manual says.......Fuel Pump Circuit Open; Battery to PCM.

Where and how do i start in correcting this known problem?

thanks

You'll find a lot of these have this code stored in memory... and I don't believe this sets off the light... If the fuel pump secondary circuit were really open, the truck wouldn't even run. You might have some corrosion on the wiring or the connectors causing higher-than-normal resistance causing this code, but I don't believe this to be the cause of your light.

I would try scanning it while the light is on and see if any other codes are present at that time.

Good luck.

reset

that happened to me, try reseting or clearing the codes. then take 'er for a boot and see if it still does it. it could very well just be a loose or corroded wire and i believe ford actually does have what they call a "Wiggle Test" where you have to wiggle the wires and the computer checks if anything weird happens. I'm not a hundred percent sure but see what you come up with.
