18x8 rims on a 55?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Oct-02 AT 01:32 AM (EST)]i got a way to get a set of 18x8 inch rims with 50 series side wall and was wondering if they would fit on my 55 f100. i put volare up front with a 9 inch in the back and the width stayed the same in the back as stock. i was wondering if any one had this setup or would know if the would fit or not. the bed is and fenders are all stock by the way.

18x8 rims on a 55?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Oct-02 AT 09:03 AM (EST)]Dave,
I've used a Falken S/TZ 01 because it was the only truck/suv tire with tread that didn't look like a truck tire. The size is 275/60/17 the dia.= 30.2" with a tread width of 10.7". The rim width required is 7" - 9.5", the 5.5" backspace on the rim gets it up under the front fenders. I'm running a Volarie clip which is approx. 61", same as the original straight axle. I did how ever have to use a narrower rearend to get the tire under the rear fenders, because I flipped the axle on the springs, and C-Sectioned the frame. I swapped the 61" Torino GT 9" I had in it, with a '74 Maverick 8" with a 57" width. If your interested in the tire go to http://www.falkentire.com and choose the S/TZ01 under the tire catalog for Specialty Truck, Light Truck & SUV.
Jeff
PS: Yes front and rear, I wanted to be able to rotate the tires.
