272 Overhaul
#2
Lots of different options, especially for a 272. If you want a one-stop-shop, try John Mummert: http://www.ford-y-block.com/ or Red's Headers: http://www.reds-headers.com/ .
A surprising amount of things can be obtained from NAPA, Carquest, or even the AutoZone type stores. Local machine shops may or may not prove to be a good source of parts, and prices can be an issue with them. DEPENDS ON THE MACHINE SHOP. eBay, of course, has a lot of things available, but sometimes you have to watch brands & quailty when you buy from one of the big eBay jobbers. Lifters for the Y are an issue right now as well as camshafts, metallurgy-wise, so you need to spend money wisely.
As a rule we tend to shoot people towards John Mummert because he deals primarily with Ys, has done his research, knows the various problems with quality from different companies, and is fairly competitive on price...as well as carrying performance parts and proven parts combinations. Red's Headers is owned by a super-nice guy who has been around for a long time & knows his stuff as well.
If I'm reading your post right & you are looking to do a simple "freshening" (as opposed to a hardcore total rebuild, NAPA, etc. will do as well as anybody, if you want to go local. Hope it helps!

Thanks a bunch Homespun. That will help. Nappa is the only parts store here in the north woods. They don't know there you know what from there other thing but I've learned to deal with them. Ya I'm just going to do a light overhaul as she is smoking a bit with 68000 on it. Should be ok for the half dozen times a year she gets out. No machine shops this side of Seattle so if I was to bore one I would need to buy a boring bar or a block that was ready.
