many questions
First, I would like to say great site! Very cool to have a y-block specific section.
My main question is this:
Does someone make a forged piston for the 312s or 292s? Or at a minimum a hyper?
I don't have a motor yet but I would like to put a sn93 paxton blower that I have laying around on it. I wouldn't take my chances with a cast and an aftermarket piston gives me the options of different ring widths. Fabrication isn't a issue and it will be on a 34 truck.
Hopefully this is a yes and I would not have to go the long route.
My only other thought we would be if a 312 crank fit into a 292 block . . .
Use a stock 292 rod (6.324) and a 2.3 ford piston (1.6 c/ht, .912 pin)
This would be approximately .038 shorter so maybe a deck job could work out a little of the difference.

Forged piston
John Mummert at www.ford-y-block.com told me about three weeks ago that he would be getting a new supply of forged domed pistons in approx. 2 months. I dont know if that will include flattops also. Hypereutectics(?) with Metric rings are offered by Verne Schumann, 1-563-381-2416.

I believe John will sell stuff in just about any configuration you want. "Complete rotating assemblies" are the buzzword right now with all the suppliers (for 347s, 521s, whatever) , so that's the wording on the website. Before that he listed the pistons separately for quite a while.
It sounds like you are probably conversant with this, but I'll throw in the comment that any of the piston manufacturers can whip something up for you, albeit at a higher price than the typical TRW Powerforged set. (I believe Mummert's are actually KB/Silvolite.) Ross & Venolia are both companies that I know have done Y block stuff recently. Diamond is also really good about about custom stuff at a reasonable price- talk to Eric Simone there.
TRW has made Powerforged sets for the 292 & 312 in the past, no longer, though. With parts inventory reduction nowadays, I think they pretty much carry just SBC & BBC (OK, OK, I'm joking...sorta....) but the old sets come up on eBay every once in awhile.
And yeah, a 312 crank will fit into a 292 block, if you turn the mains down...only problem nowadays is finding a good one.
