Remote starter DIY install?

It's hard to say. If you like adventure and get a quality kit with quality instructions, it might be a fun experience. I guess you have to weight the cost of installation against the probability that things can go wrong.
I'm comfortable with electical systems in general but wouldn't do my own becuase of the PATS bypass requirement.

You could get the best one from Ford if you are interested

i installed one on my 2001 expy, it was not hard if you can follow schematics. if it has a pats sytem you buy a module to bypass it no big deal either, a little pain to get the sensor mounted in the correct position but not that hard. as far as frying black boxes its possible, if you are ok with wireing and can use a voltmeter then you wont have a problem if not then i would pay to have it done.

it is a chiped key if you use a regular key to try to start your car it will start for a seconed then die. it has to see the code from the chip on the key. if your key is black and thick plastic on the key ring side of it then its a pats key if it is a all metal then no pats system installed

I brought the ford kit, I think I should have went with the aftermarket kit which would probadly take maybe 2 kours to install instead of 10 hours and a lot cheaper. I had to pay extra for a new key, a pats module and the led that came in the ford kit still doesn't work so I use the ford one install in center of the top of the dash from the factory. I think the Viper would have been a better selection.
