Oil Pump

Hello Friends,

1st to update on my starter problem forum... I had my starter rebuilt and the guy that rebuilt it said that it wasn't that bad. It had never been rebuilt,,,it was the original 41 yrs old...

Ok on to the next problem...when i took it off I noticed that I was leaking a looking oil from around my oil pump cover.. so i tighted 3 of the four bolts. the 4th bolt broke off.. when i started it leaked like crazy. I had to drill the bolt out. I tried to replace it with a tight another tight fitting bolt but didn't work..
It probably would be worth it to replace the pump..

If so, is it as easy as unbolting it from the block and reinstalling another pump and gasket?

What all is involved, would i be better off taking it to a local shop for repair?

I tried to take the pump off but, it didn't want to cooperate...

Thanks for all your help...

ps.. This has been a two month project so far...I had to test drive for about 1/2 mile on sunday morning I just couldn't wait..I have installed new wires, plugs, adjusted the valves, sealed the exhaust, reinstalled new cables(battery and ground), rebuilt starter, new starter switch, installed chrome valve covers and painted the engine.

Ray, It sounds like you are well on your way to enjoying the "Old Ford" hobby. I recommend you take your truck to a machine shop and see what it will cost to have for (4) new bolts installed. Have you been through the brakes? How about tie rods, wheel bearings, shocks? Keep us posted.

Thanks for the fast reply....Tie rods are in decent shape i will probably have them replaced. I'm going to replace the shocks, brakes are new ,,,new wheel cylinders and master cylinder were put on the day i bought it.

Thanks I'll check around for a descent machine shop or might just replace the pump...
