Unhappy I love Check Engine Lights

Alright. i got the p0153 code for the 2nd time in 2 months. im thinking about changing the o2 censor this time, but i have a question 1st. When i let my truck sit(98 4.6) for a while, when i try to start it, it'll run up to about 1400rpm's or so, then die. it'll usually do this until i give it enough gas to run for a minute or so. it will crank then die as long as i will let it. any other ideas?? if you have any questions or need me to clarify, let me know.

The stalling and idle problem are likely due to the IAC valve. Try cleaning it but be prepared to replace it if the symptoms continue.

The P0153 may be indicating an O2 sensor is getting lazy (there are other causes for this code) due to age or degradation. Upstream, driver's side.

Same Problem

My 98 4.6 did the rev up and die dance too. I cleaned the IAC and it fixed it for about 3 months. Then it started doing the dance again so I replaced the IAC and it's been A OK for at least a year now.

Your experience is exactly why I early wrote what I did.

A very common sequence of events.

take it off and let it soak in some thorttle body cleaner, then wipe it out a little and reinstall. You might get a hummming noise and that is normal it is just some of the cleaner left over. If it makes a difference, replace it as cleaning it will only be a short term fix. Got my for about 44 bucks at, auto Zone... get in the zone.....lol had to do that
