how to separate the fan/fan clutch from the water pump on 1991 7.3L

Having major head scratching about how to separate the fan/fan clutch from the water pump on a 1991 7.3L International Diesel installed in a Ford crew cab.

I realize the threads are left hand, as labeled, but when I put the jumbo 1 7/8 wrench on the fan nut, the water pump slips, as there is no good way to keep the water pump from turning. Gripping the pulley bolts does not seem to work well, as they are only 1/2" heads at an awkward angle and do not oppose the huge nut very well. Any ideas? I leave for vacation soon.....

Thanks all! I ended up taking the 1"x.25" piece of flat bar from my garage door opener, opening up the hole size in the end to 3/8" so I could bolt it in one of the four pulley holes. This then stopped against the hub, allowing me to oppose the 1 7/8 wrench.
