90 B2: loss of power, high fuel consumption

My 90 B2 Eddie Munster Edition is losing power and using an awful lot of gas even though I recently tuned it up. I removed the spark plugs and found that #1 and #5 were covered in what is probably unburnt fuel. I confirmed that spark was going to both plugs.

I'm thinking that the #1 and #5 injectors are stuck open (thereby causing the vehicle to bog under load), but was wondering if there's an alternate explanation that is more plausible.

Many thanks,
goldie.

Take a look at the vacuum line on the fuel pressure reg. If it has fuel in it, replace the regulator. I had a similar problem last year on mine, was an easy fix. A bad reg will cause a rich condition.

No, I have not pulled the codes -- I'm not equipped to do that.

Also, why would a bum fuel pressure regulator affect only two of six cylinders?

You couldn't find a paper clip lying around, could you? A paper clip is enough equipment to pull codes, if you are willing to try. See Ken00's article in his tech info post.

If I suspected this, the first thing I might do is put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail, pressurize the fuel system (ground fuel pump test lead), then turn the pump off, and see if the fuel system holds pressure. If the fuel system doesn't hold pressure, then you locate the "leak" (a stuck open injector is a possible cause of a leak).
