Ipod hooked straight to amp?

Kinda wondering on this... what if I get an Ipod (or any mp3 player) and run the audio signal straight to the car amp via a Y-Cable ... what do you guys think? Using the Ipod as the actual stereo. Opinions?

It'll work. I've actually done it with a portable cd player before. Need to run a remote lead to the amp of course to turn it on with ignition. Just get a cord that has the stereo headphone jack on one end and the rca cords on the other.

if you do that though, only the subs will run, no midrange or high sounds, only bass.

I've done it for years, with portable CD players, then MP3 players. But it goes into an Alphasonik active crossover which sends mono bass to the sub and the rest to the L and R speakers (using a 4 channel amp). Some amps have built-in crossovers (high-pass and low-pass filters) on the inputs, so you can feed them from a Y cable and don't need an external crossover.

yeah you could, but most people use there amps for subs, and just use a good high power head unit.
