Does anyone know of were to get new cooking oil in bulk???? When I say bulk I mean a few hundred gallons at a time. I am in the Houston area, thanks for any help.
Try Houston Biodiesel, if you run a search on yahoo or google you can get their site and give them a call. I know they sell virgin biodiesel and process it there so they might be able to get you in touch with someone who sells virgin oil. theyre located up near Bush Airport, way up there. WHat part of town are you in??
You can buy a pallet of 60 4.6 Gallon jugs of Soybean frying oil from Sam's Wholesale Clubs for $2.88 per gallon! 276 Gallons = $794.88
Why in the world would someone pay $2.88/gal for raw oil? I checked into a rail-car load and still could'nt find it less than $1.85/gal.....For 12,000gal!
Ya know, here's an alternative: filtered used cooking oil. Heard of this last year. One of the listers on a biodiesel website talked about buying used oil from a reclamation service in his area. They filter it and sell it by the 55 gal barrel. I forget the price, but it sorta/kinda seems to me that it was less than a buck a gallon. I'm going to look for that type of source here in east Texas. I think I could realize some real savings here, and not have to deal with collection or filtering.
Houston Biodiesel doesn't make what they sell.. They buy it in bulk and resell it. I have been buying B99 from them for a while. My truck runs great on it. I have come to find that new oil is too expensive. Does anyone know of any used cooking oil collection services here in Houston that I could buy the used filtered oil from???
I just started collecting WVO from a restaurant and the previous collector was a service with a barrel marked with name and number. You might try checking behind some of the restaurants in your area.
I'm just getting setup to run a diesel/WVO (50/50) blend for the summer months and will probably go to homebrewing come fall when it gets too cool to run WVO. I will have my filtration system completed in my garage in a couple of weeks.
