pcv and oil consumption

On some of the other posts here the pcv valve was listed as a culprit for high oil consumption. I don't believe anyone mentioned of the old one was bad or just replaced the original. The reason I ask is that I got a new one from Auto zone and the weight inside the original one seemed much heavier than than the replacement. My original one was clean and seemed to function ok but I do have oil consumption.

It may be opening too far causing oil to be sucked into the intake. Try the new one and see how it does.

That's right. Your PCV valve won't cause oil consumption unless it sticks open.

The weight of the check valve doesn't matter, it is balanced against spring pressure.
