99 exped 5.4L oil in coolant, metal in oil, new loud noise hot cold accel idle

99 expedition with 5.4L ~205,000 miles. Drive everyday. Sudden loud engine noise sounds like steel bouncing around. I noted metal in a fresh oil change, none in past changes. Oil looks like it has glitter in it. The coolant is brown and smells of oil, oil is somewhat milky. At the same ~time the radiator has started to leak on top near hose. Oil consumsion has increased. The engine noise is on both idle in hot and cold engine and on acceleration, decceleration. I think I may have a beent rod that is getting chewed up. I am torn the remanufactured engine and labor is 5800$. Has anyone used a promar engine they are here in NJ. 2200$ for their remanufactured engine. Is this engine repairable? Thank you much for your help.

Sounds like you hava a spun rod bearing and its time for a engine overhaul or replacement.

Also blown head gasket overpressurizing the radiator and letting oil get in coolant? Regardless, time for a motor. Never heard of Promar. I'm in VA.

I'd look for a low-mileage (or relatively low) replacement at a boneyard. Nearly $6000 seems high for a reman engine + labor. If the engine is $2200 as you state, then you're paying $3600 labor to remove/replace an engine. At a high $100/hour for labor, they're saying it will take 36 hours to do the work. Or you are paying too much per hour for the labor. Either way, entirely too high IMHO.
