Question 2.3 in a 1951 ******.....

i have a 1951 ****** CJ3A, and i am SLOWLY getting it back together(all new brakes, all fiberglass body, every wire brand new)

now my problem is......im not sure my engine will run anymore....it hasnt been run in 2-3 years, (since i tore the body off)

i have seen adapters to put a 2000 or 2300 ford in this jeep, but i am wondering if it is torque-y enough engine to pull my little jeep with 33's

i know alot of people just say put in a small block, but thats just not cost effective (plus with a V8, you start snapping axles and blowing trannies)

how much power/torque will a naturally asperated 2300 make????

The old jeeps made there power from deep gearing. the *****'s flathead 4, if I remember correctly had about 60 hp, yet" in low range they would climb a tree, if they could reach the first branch. So if you install a motor with twice the hp, and torque, it could'nt help but be an inprovement. The 33's should give you a little more road speed, as the taller tire's will change your gear ratio a little. I agree with you, I think the 2.3 is a great chioce, less breakage, and more power, and torque. I wouldn't go any bigger than 33's though. I would like to do a 3a, or 2a similar to your deal, but with a steel body, I heard it's hard to get good grounds with fiberglass. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress!
