My Son Nate and I go riding stag formation

In the fore ground is Nate's 1965 Ford M151A1 and accross the road sit's my 1967 Ford M151A1.

In the drive way sits my 1967 and behind her sits the 1962 Ford M151 that I just purchased this week and is now slowly becoming the Pre Runner we are building to race in the Baja 1000.

I changed my mind on using the 1966 M151A1 as it was a demil and I wanted a un-cut Mutt to build on so the M151 is now the pre runner project.

Nate looking all so cool in his Mutt...LOL

Cool they are.

What makes these baby's so special is the Ford M151A1 is the last true Flat fender.

But they are very different from any other Jeep style design,

First off they have IFS ad IRS with a uni-body instead of a body tub on solid frame.

They are 4 speed, not three like any other Military Jeep vehicle.

They do not have locking hubs, a single gear that transfers from 2WD to 4WD.

The grill is slanted instead of top to bottom like any other Jeep so they stand out.

they are not fast over the road with a top speed of 60MPH.

But they can do that 60 MPH off road with ease over some of the roughest terrain.

The Mutt has fantastic clearance with the independant suspension and can ride into deep rutts where a solid axle Jeep would have to approach at angles to avoid bottoming out.

You can clear so big rocks with ease that a regular Jeep type vehicle would need mods for.

This vehicle was so far ahead of of other vehicles of it's day.

The M151A2 is even better in design and capabilities.

Oh plus they get great gas milage too.

How many American vehicles from the early to mid 1960's got 26 miles to the gallon???

Better infact then quite a few of the German and Japanese cars of the same period!

You just have to love Ford for building such a awesome Military truck!
