Programmer interchangeable?????

I got a SCT programmer for my (now former F250 5.4) and wonder can it be used on another F250 5.4?? They ask me for my computer number on the firewall....does that matter??? I never installed it..had it a week and got a different truck.....don't ask

Thanks

Only if the tuner has been restored to stock, and if both trucks have the same computer code. If they don't the tuner will need to be reprogrammed for the new truck's code.

Ford has literally thousands of codes. The tunes need to be written for the same code family.

ok...examples??

I mean what does a code family consist of??

I know the Hypertech programmers are basically plug and play as long as the vehicle type is the same.....for example any LS1 car can use a hypertech programmer....there are variances between model years but usually you can use the same tuner for say 97-99 models.

what type of variances do I have with the SCT??

I mean I have one for a 05 F250 5.4 will it work on an 05 F150 5.4 ??

All 1996 and newer codes are 3 letters followed by 1 number. You can have two trucks with the same options and same year/model with different codes. Its completely different from the GM world. You need matching codes.

Did you buy the SCT from us?

well I guess I will probably get f***** on this returning it .... I got it from someone else.....25% restock fee....havent talked to them yet as they havent returned my calls
I bought from them as I was gonna order from JMS and they referred me to them for the programming since I guess handle more of the truck programming pkgs for them
I guess that what I get going outside of what I know....well that and not buying a bigger truck the first time knowing how fickle my wife is and how she would be buying a bigger trailer sooner rather than later

Be cool with the language, there's no need for it on this site.

What are the codes of the two different vehicles? What is the year so I can tell you where to locate it? SCT's can be reprogrammed for different codes.

well thats just it...I won't know the code on the other vehicle until I find someone who may be interested in it...

I realize they can be re-programmed but therfore again I end up eating a huge chunk of cash because whoever buys it (unless I get extremely lucky) will have to pay to change it which means I have to sell it cheaper.... so at this point i might as well just send it back and eat the $100
