Smile 66 f100 heater core

Hi there -
Do any of you sly dogs know where the heater core on
a 66 f100 is located? I'm guessing it's somewhere behind
the glove box. I can see bolts on the firewall, so I'm thinking
the easy way to get at it is to take the padded panel on top
of the dash off... Please advise, if you know about this
perplexing conondrum!

If it is like my 65, the heater core is inside the black heater box (Plenium), (the one the fan is in) below the dash on the passsengers side. You have to remove the nuts that hold the box to the firewall (which are in the engine compartment)... the bolts go through the wall. Once the nuts are removed the box kinda falls out. Remove the hoses, which also go through the wall. You unplug the blower motor wires- and if you have any vent adjuster cables remove them. Also remove the screws that hold the defrost tubes to the box (they will be brittle and tear easily.) Once the whole heaterbox is removed there are several clips that hold the box together. Remove the clips, Split the box apart and VIOLA' one heater core. I just did this in a '60 falcon yesterday - a '65 last year, and a '62 2 years ago. All of the procedures where basically the same. Unless they where change drastically from '65 to 66.. that should work. It took me 2 hours to remove the heater core and replace the new one, from start to finish. It takes a second person to hold the heater box in place until you get at least 2 nuts threaded. I hope this helps.

Paul, I can never find the part number when I want it, but the same heater core was used through 79 so when going to the parts house, should they not show your year model but do for a late 70s get that one.

you need part number 399024 www.kragen.com . also the same heater core was not used. 61-65 94572 66-72 399024 and 73-79 398016/39923 all have different heater cores.

Thanks to all!

Thanks to each of you, (john, ford390gashog, and flip4ford). I knew you
guys would know what to do! Hopefully, none of this will be necessary,
and the new hoses will do the trick. I really appreciate all of your excellent advice!

Have a great week!

- Paul
