By all reports on this site, not a good idea from a warrenty, air flow perspective. The stock ones good. Besides you have a turbo sucking through and presurizing to 26 psi under load....
I'd go with a Kwik-filter. Eighteen bucks from fleetfilter.com
Do a CCV mod and clean up the lines.
Tons of threads on here bout those, hit the search.
one thing i did do and it didn`t void the warranty, AND had noticeable effects on power and the almighty fuel economy was to drill 1 inch round holes on the down side(before air filter) in the filter housing on all 3 three of our super dutys. kinda thought and it is.... hard for the v-10`s and 6.0`s to suck the much needed air through the 2.5 inch hole in the fresh air intake. i made 8 (v-10) or 10 (6.0) holes all the way around , noticeable power increase on both motors, and maybe 1.5 to 2 mpg`s better.
I put one on my '99 250 5.4 and it did make a differance. I dont know how long it will take to pay for itself at a 1.5 mpg improvement, but it was worth it in performance. I live in the rockies and if you drive between 5,000ft.- 10,000 ft. elevation, air is important! Plus it makes your truck sound cool
In a dusty environment such as Arizona the AIS offers the best filtration against airborne dirt, debris, etc. Now the AIS isn't the highest flowing filter on the market but it's the best bet for desert protection IMO
There's absoloutely nothing wrong with K&N filters from a performance standpoint
