3spd, To C6

3spd, To C6
I have a 68' F-100 2wd w/a 360 that originally had a 3spd. I changed it to a C6 and it seems like we have had nothing but trouble ever since. First, we had to take out the front crossmember to get the C6 into the truck. It would not come close to mounting to the back of the motor. Then, after we got it all back together, the wrong flexplate was installed and being that we had to take out the front crossmember to begin with, to install the C6, well, that meant we had to take the crossmember out again to remove the trans to change flexplates. So, I was just wondering if the automatic trucks from the factory, had the same front crossmember, and the same configuration as a truck that had a standard trans. to begin with? I just can't imagine that Ford would make an automatic truck, that every time you have to pull the tranny, you have to pull that front crossmember out to get the tranny, in, or out.
Especially when we all know that these crossmembers are riveted to the frame rails from the factory. Anyway, just wanted a little input here. Thanks for all advice given.

Bill, Yes they did. The difference is, the trucks shipped with the automatic had the cross member bolted in, where as the straight drives were rivited in. As you found out the member has to be removed to remove the tranny. I converted one like yours, installed the tranny and engine together, and the tranny had to come back out, and the repair shop had to cut the rivits.
