dt466 (blue)cps for OBS??

ok the SD guys are finding that a cps from a dt466 which is blue is causing gains in mileage (Some say 1.5 mpg!!!!!!!!!) and quieting their engines. so my first question is what is difference between the 94.5 to 96 sensors and the 97 to 03 sendors? i am wondering if there is a version of the dt466 sensor that will fit our trucks? they think the blue sensor is a stronger magnet creating a cleaner signal to the computer.

anybody have any info on this?

i will try to get some info from the IH dealer that we get parts from at work.

heres to hoping
tim

I can't answer your question completely but the newer ones can be used on our trucks from what I have heard. This sounds very interesting. Sounds like somthing to try!

the only diff between the 2 7.3 sensors is the mounting bracket. the sensor it self is identical.

the dt466 sensor retards timing about 2 degrees so the guys that have chips that advance the timing are now retarded back 2 deg. i dont want a cps to adjust the timing i will do that with my programming.

The 94.5 - 96 CPS have tin coated connetor pins, the 97 - 03 CPS have gold coated connector pins. I'm assuming the DT466 CPS has gold coated connector pins. Ford / International do not recommend mixing the connector pins due to the metallic reaction (electrolysis) that can happen over time from mating dissimiliar metals together. That's what I've read anyway.

barebackjake do you have any proof of the retarded timing? a few guys have talked to IH and they say the only difference is a stonger magnet which they say doesn't change timing. i guess when it comes down to it if i can gain 1.5 mpg for $100 then i will sell my brand new spare cps and get the dt466 sensor and throw my current sensor in the glove box for a spare.

Another point to ponder on the retarded timing issue: reduced cylinder pressures.

so kwik sould that be good or bad? i suppose with lower pressures you could cram more propane in or boost more air in there than before. but is there an efficency issue with less pressure or something. i am a mechanic but i just don't know much about what you are talking about.

with less timing= less PRESSURE ON THE RODS!!!!!
i have been following the one over at tds pretty much everyday....so far the only known difference besides color and size is the magnet...

a few guys up in washington are about to test it with 100 dollar cps tester and some other stuff to see whats what...

1 thing is for sure all the results people are having are all similar and nothing bad....

i called my ih a few minutes ago. they got 19 of them for $100.14 ea. if the wife gives me the ok to buy it i am going today as soon as i get off work. i will report my findings here.

on the snap on scanner it shows it retarding the timing. possibly since theres a stronger magnet the magnetic field is larger so it is picking up faster. i didnt like the way it ran in my truck, it made alot more smoke but i didnt try it with the chip out. i dont have a stock position on my chip and didnt feel like pulling it out. i just borrowed the spare cps that i have for my other bucket truck

Is retarding the timing actually reducing the cylinder pressures, or just moving it to a safer (for the rods) place? Seems like more smoke and higher EGT's would be the normal response for retarded timing given the amount of fuel injected remains the same. The up side is the peak CP would be happening on the downstroke where it should be.

The timing is a careful dance that if gotten just right will have great power, safe cylinder pressures and managable EGTs. I'm pretty sure that Tipton is playing with 1/4 degree increments to achieve what he's accomplishing.

i guess i will check the timing with our snap-on scanner when we install it in my dads truck and i will try to test the old and new cps with the snap-on vantage which will give me a graphic of the signal and see if it looks any different between the two. i guess it will make for interesting research.
