75 F250 running gear?
Hey all,
I have started a project on a 75 F250 and need some help ID'ing the running gear. It originally had a 360, but the PO put a 390 in it. I have the engine out now and hope to be assembling it before Christmas.
Here's the info I have:
Door tag
Vin F26YRW84800
GVWR 6500 front 3325 rear 3680
WB 133 Color W8 Type F260 body 6Z4 Trans G axle 24J
Front diff. Tag:
4 09 D4TA RA
603479-1
Ring gear PSR26 Dana 18520 45-11 1-13-75
Cover 10 bolts ½” head 5/16” NC bolts 9-3/8” wide X 10-1/4” tall
Rear diff. Tag:
4.10 D5TA-LFB
603583-9
Ring gear: 12-18-74 Dana 30360A A3D44X 41-10
Stamped on gasket surface 0 o 63
Cover 10 bolts 9/16 head 3/8 NC bolts 10-3/4” wide x 12-1/8” tall
Transfer Case
New Process NP 203
2-12-75
D4TA7A195E
Heads C8AE-H
Manifold C5AE 94250
I have looked for a stamping on the differentials and find nothing on the rear and maybe 3 or 8 7070 cast marking on the front. The rear axle has the bolted plate in the center of the hub so I am thinking it is full floating the ford truck VIN decoder says the rear is a DANA 60 with 4.10 gears which agrees with the metal tag on the differential but list the weight rating as 5300 lbs which does not agree with the Vin tag. The guy I bought it from said it had a vibration that was caused by a bad u-joint for the front drive shaft so he had removed it. I looked at the joints and they looked okay to me. There does seem to be a lot of slop in the front axle. When I rotate the front differential yoke (pinion) it turns about 30 degrees. while I had the cover off everything looked good with out a lot of play in the ring or spiders, so I am assuming the slop is in the wheel/hubs. I hope to locate the problem before I reinstall the engine, so any thoughts from you all would be appreciated. Also any and all info on the numbers I have listed would help with my project.
Does anyone have experience with the Milemarker conversion kit (for the NP 203 TC), to convert from full time to part time 4 WD?
Thanks in advance.
