Well, I'll tell ya..I looked for 2 years to get a decent block ...In my price range...which was next to nothing ..and a friend almost gave me the second one..thats why I have 2..

I have paid more for just the blocks and 1 out of 3 were junk..and a Machine shop screwed up the second one...and I sold the 3rd..cause I made a bunch of money on the deal....Plus the Feds ended up with some of the parts to Finish it!! Long story..

LOL....I agree..take your time and try not to cut any corners and you'll end up with what you want... I made the mistake of buying a bunch of stuff and doing the research later...and found out just how big of Dummy I really was!

I have alot of time under my belt with the Brand X engine's..but more often than not ..it doesnt apply to the FE motor...LOL..

So this new build maybe 2 years out yet? But I know what I need...and have to Parts list...and it will rock!! I gaurantee!! LOL..

I'am just having fun with it..being how its not my daily driver..So I have the time..Now for the rest of the money!! LOL..

Good Luck on your Build..and enjoy it!

Short and bare 428 blocks

Ford sold 390 and 428 short (xxxx-6009-x) and bare (xxxx-6010-x) blocks in many different versions. The 428 in my '79 F150 4X4 cost me $240 way back when (1974?). It was new in a box and a hydraulic lifter Police short block. The cast pistons have a dish to give 10.5/1 c.r. with standard small chamber 390/428 heads. I've always used the larger CJ heads to give about 9.5/1 c.r. John Fisher engine rebuilders was the authorized engine rebuilder for Ford and used to sell obsolete and left-over new stock from Ford. When I bought my shortblock they were still in the Ford price book for $480 dealer cost. It does not have the ribs on the skirt.
