old hobart welder question

my dad has an older hobart engine driven welder its a 300 amp i think driven by a 4 cylinder flat head jeep engine one day it just quit welding wont even strike an arc we pulled the side covers off to look at the brushes and they look fine better than 50% when the machine is running should there be a spark between the armature and brushes like you see inside a drill there is no spark on the welder and would anyone appen to have a wiring schematic for this welder or an idea of wht is wrong with it

Miller makes Hobart, try contacting them to see if they might have the literature/parts you need.

ITW Illinois tool works owns both Miller and Hobart. Hobart still has their own website, I would try contacting them first, as when your machine was made, they were completely seperate companies. Maybe you will get lucky enough to speak to a rep who was around in the early days.
