PC Geeks: ATI vs nVidia

I need to get a nice video card for my PC im building. I currently have an ATI, and its been great (for like 3 yrs). The day before I got the ATI, i got a Nvidia geforce....it locked up my system so I gave it away and went with ATI....but Im willing to give nvidia another chance. What do guys say?

I've always run ati cards. just watch out the control panel will run in the backgroundeating up precious speed in certain apps (gaming mainly).heard that lock-up thing from a few people. ati seems to run much better, never heard of a lock-up problem with them.

I used to run TRIDENT cards, but once the ATI cards came around I've used them almost exclusively. The seem to run faster than a comparable Nvidia.

I ran ATI for the longest time. My biggest switch factor was the ease of support for Nvidia under linux. Also on my machine at least, nvidia seems to offer a little better performance than ATI.

Nvidia. 6800 series rocked. 7800 series is thus far unchallenged until today. You can get a 7800GTX (top of the line) for 450 while the bottom of the line X1800XL is more than that.
