Front end rattle driving me nuts!

I recently purchased a used 2001 F150 supercab, Lariat, Off Road 4x4. It has a Western plow installed on it and about 50,000 miles on it. Since getting the truck home I have noticed a noise in the front end. It sounds like it's right under your feet while you drive. It's kind of a dull clunking sound everytime you hit a bump. It's not the brake pads rattling because when you apply the brake it doesn't go away. I crawled under the truck and nothing seems to be loose. I had the front end alligned and the toe in was out a little but they said all the tie rods and steering parts were good. Does anyone have any suggestions?

check the universal joints on your drive shaft. If you have any play, then it could cause a thump or clunk. That would more likely be an issue if it was while you were speeding up from a stoplight though.

Might have a cheby stuck under it. You might want to look real close at the transmission mounts, engine mounts. You said it was used for snow plow work. I might have damaged or caused the the mounts to become lose. Good luck.

Found It!!!!!!!!!

Guys,

I found the rattle. It was the driver's side shock. The bottom of the shock had some play in it where the lower shock bolt went through it. Not sure if a bushing fell out or what. For now I shimmed it up with a washer until I get new shocks and the rattle is gone. Thanks for the help!

Shawn
