That is cheap for England.
There are a lot of guys here that have put 6.5l engines in a variety of vehicles.
In my opinion, unless you really want it. Steer clear.
Support for the engine over there will be pretty poor parts wise etc.
Oh, by the way, if I haven't asked you already, join us in the International Chapter. A link on how to join up is in my signature.

Ask when the fuel pump was replaced last- they run about $900 here with labor, and last anywhere from 30-45K miles. Usage doesn't seem to matter much. Honestly, I agree with BigF350- parts can be long in coming on this side of the pond for the 6.5's, so I can imagine what it'd be like over there.

My sister has a 1994 2500 6.5 4x4 auto. She bought it at 150,000 miles, now has 195,000 miles with no problems yet. All miles are towing a 10,000lbs horse trailer. When towing i can set the cruise at 70 and go. Ive driven it a few times towing and in my opnion it runs great and has lots of power for a 12 yr old truck.

Finding a 96 Powerstroke in England would be tough.
I speak from experience. When you see these kind of vehicles for sale (an F-Series or its GM counterpart), you either have the choice to buy it or leave it.
Bartering, or going around looking for another vehicle that fits a similar description just isn't an option.
Because those vehicles are rarely for sale.

Well, that is a "heavy" half-ton with the 4L80E, which should be fine for you. A lot better than a true 1/2-ton with an unmodified 4L60E and a gasser for the price of gas these days. My stepdad's 3/4-ton with the 7.4L and 4L80E is great. I may get flack for saying something beside a Ford can be great (Oh, the thought...), but I buy what works, no matter (almost) what truck it is.
One of my stealership-owning friends had a 1994 version of that truck that got 18mpg an a run to the middle of Florida and back.
Since you can't find anything in a true 1/2-ton with a diesel, go for it. I think you still have the mechanical fuel pumps on the 96 6.5L engines, but I could be wrong. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad to convert back to one, but I don't browse 6.5L forums at all. Hit or miss on reliability, but the two trucks I have been in with the 6.5L have been okay, though not flashy.
