Unhappy Ride Problems, could it be torsion bar adjustment?

I have had my truck aligned by two different shops and the truck still seems to pull to the left. Looking at the truck head on it appears that the drivers side sits slightly lower than the passenger side. Could this be a torsion bar adjustment? Is their any reason this wouldn't be corrected on an alignment? Tire pressures are equal and I have not noticed any abnormal tire wear. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

Aaron

Aaron Tell us a little bit more about your truck, like the year model and mileage , and work other than you described above that has been done to it.

Sorry, some of that info is in my signature, but its a 98 F-150 4x4 4.6L automatic. About 98,000 miles, never had anything front end wise done except new sway bar links (maybe 40,000 miles ago) and I've had it since new.

my 2001 SC 4 x 4 has torsion bar type springs, i will assume your truck is the same. measure the height from the ground to the fender lip at each front tire. if the numbers are not within a 1/2 inch, you are setting loopsided as you said. under the drivers and passenger seat (bottom of truck) is the back end of the torsion bar. there is a jack screw or adjustment bolt on the back end of each torsion pointing downward. pick the low side and crank the bolt in two turns. get out, bounce it up and down a little and recheck. you should be able to level the ride. can also use the screws to lift the front end an 1-2 inch if it sets lower than the back axle.

Montanafordman,
I adjusted my torsion bars to pick up the front end about an inch when I installed bigger tires. It's pretty easy to do, however, every shop I've talked to has told me that as soon as you adjust the torsion bars you need an alignment. I work at Discount Tire, and when I was adjusting my bars, I noticed one of them was cranked up quite a bit more than the other, basically the passenger side should have been sitting higher than the driver's side, but it wasn't. I asked my manager about this and he said that the DOT mandates that the passenger's side be a little stiffer/taller than the driver's side because of the outward slope of the country's highways. I'm not sure if I believe this, but it's kinda interesting. If anybody knows anymore about this let me know.

My truck had the same ....one adjuster bolt cranked more than the other.Truck did sit proper but it bounces unequally in big bumps in the road where you get a bit of occillation. So I cranked up the driver side and the truck went up equally one inch..Hummmm! I do need a allignment now ...I'm sure of it.Steering is a little touchy now.2002sc4x4 5.4 7700 .

Have your lower ball joints checked out, plus all the other suspension parts(tie rods, upper ball joints, etc....) The place that did the allignment should have check it for you when you had it done. Did they do this? Are the a reputible buisness? I have a 97 4x4 and have 132,000 on it. Ive replaced lower ball joints right around the mileage you have now, and have since replaced other suspension parts including tie rods and pitman arm , plus idler arm. Do a search for lower ball joints. I dont remember what the topic name, but in one of the post it tells you how to check the lower balljoints to see if they are bad.
