351 C swap, 1967 F250 4x4

Hey guys
I'm thinkin of droppin a 2v Cleveland into my '67 Highboy to replace the worn slap out '74 360 that currently powers it, just wondering if anyone has tried this? i think i can use the FE frame stands, the motor will just sit alil higher, which isnt a big deal, and i even think i can make a set of 351M headers for a 77+ F250 work. Has anyone tried this? lemme know what yall think
btw it is a 4spd truck, and yes i do have the correct clutch/flywheel/bellhousing for the C

If you have the parts to make it work, then I don't see why not. The only problem with the 351c is that with the large valves and high lift cam, it doesn't have a lot of low end grunt.

A 2v Cleveland does not have a high lift cam, and it's valves, while larger than a Windsor or an FE, are still not "big". I have a 351C 2v in my pickup (2 wheel drive only) and it has plenty of grunt. I have used it to pull out stumps, haul dirt, gravel, lumber, etc, and it never complains.

The C doesn't make the grunt like the FE. It can make an empty pickup scoot along with some rpms.

While you can use the perches, nothing else fits. The C uses a small block bell that is different from the FE.

I have a friend who put a 351C in a 71 F-100 a few years ago. It worked well, but the cylinder walls are very thin. Hope you don't need to bore it sometime.

im aware i need a different clutch/bell/flywheel, i already have all that. i just want a motor that will make alil more power than the old tired '74 360 that is in it. the C is a fairly low mile motor and seems to run really well, i was gonna throw a dual plane intake and a small(around 268 advertised) split pattern cam in it, and see if i could make a set of 351M headers work, and call it a day.
thanks for the input, keep it comin!

Well, all things are relative of course. A 351C won't make as much torque down low as a 390, but it will make more than a 302, as much as a 351M, 351W, or a Chevy 350. I think it's a good all-around motor for a pickup, but you can tell I am prejudiced.

Dan, Rebuild the 360, put a 390 crank & rotating system in it. You will not get any of the mentioned engines to perform or produce more power than the 390.

i have been browsing summit racing....and pondering the 390 build as well, with Speed pro hypers going for only $21 each and summit having a cam/lifter/spring combo for $175, its tempting...but every time i start thinking 390...i start thinking 460, thats where my roots lie, you know? only way ill build a 390 is if i just dont feel like buying frame stands and expensive headers...
thanks for the input...

I second the notion of rebuilding the 360, and making a 390. It's a very easy swap!
