Slightly OT: A 430 question

Which is: Was a rear sump pan ever used on a MEL block? Or does a FE or a 385 rear sump pan fit?
Im considering stuffing a 430 in a F3 and build a wrecker.

Carl,

Not much help- but I have a side view pic of a 430-powered rail (an old Chassis Research car from the looks of it!) that distinctly has a rear sump pan. It appears stock in depth. Wouldn't be an old 'Bird pan, could it?? Also has the Weiand Drag Star twelve-pack.

It seems to me also that the late 462 had the rear sump, but it's been a long time since I've seen one. Memory is fogged.

Might try here if you haven't already found this site: http://www.bacomatic.org/~dw/fordv8/mel/mel.htm

Nice to see you back, by the way.

Carl,

I gave you the wrong durn link. Try this instead:http://www.network54.com/Forum/257364

BTW, I think the bellhousing pattern on the MEL is unique, an offset peak. On one of those two sites there is a picture. Oddly enough, the 460 blocks have the same pattern as well as their own, I suppose they were considered to be able to be replacements in the Lincoln. Makes me wonder about the engine mount location.
