That's not supposed to be there....
This is my BUSTED rod and cylinder walls!!!!
The holes were busted into the side of my oil pan by the rod...
This is what was found in the bottom of my oil pan...
Well, in the midst of all of this i'm considering a short block The only damage that I know of so far is what you see here. If this is all that it did what are yalls opinions on my decision??? It's a 5.0 EFI.

So, what kind of noise was it making?
My 5.0 may have just grenaded last night on my way home. I was on the interstate, when it suddenly started making lots of noise, like broken exhaust at first, then it switched to a racheting-gear-like noise, and I had very little power after that. I was thinking it might be something in the bottom of the block...

Well, chances are if you didn't think you truck was on fire from all of the smoke from the oil hitting the exaust then this didn't happen to you, as for the noise, my dad was driving it at the time and from what i hear it a pretty destinctive noise, like someone banging on pots and pans. All I can tell you is this most likely did not happen to you...

I've seen a lot of death and destruction in all kinds of engines. I had to look at a Chevy one time to see why it wouldn't start. It had thrown a rod out the side of the block and knocked the starter right off the engine. I've seen rods sticking out of oil pans, valves stuck thru pistons, you name it. I've got a piston somewhere that has the valve flipped over upside down and stuck stem first thru the top of the piston. It punched thru so fast there was a piece of piston that looked like a tootsie roll laying in the bottom of the oil pan. I once blew up a 727 automatic in a Dodge van that blew a hole out of the side of the case like a grenade went off inside of it. When things are spinning around at several thousand RPM's and fly apart it can cause all kinds of damage.

Well, it happened in a 55mph zone, what i'm wanting to do is what most people want to do....torque and horsepower...but i'm not sure what the best option would be, i'm not sure how much i'm gonna spend eathier. If you guys would just throw some suggstions on what I should do (short block, long block, etc...) any help at all would be appreciated. I'll post more pics as I get them.
****The engine is still in the truck at the time...I can't get the starter off...one of the bolts that hold it to the tranny is rounded off compleately. I can't get ANYTHING to grip it. I've tried everything imaginable, nothing works...if you guys have any suggestions on this I would really appreciate that also.****

what kind of a price range are you looking at? im getting kinda confused at the term short block or long block. i would think a nice I6 would be just about right if you had a 5.0, theyre fairly cheap, easy to get parts for, and have torque ranges similar to a diesel. a 335 series would be pretty nice, either a 351 or 400, those are nice and tuff, esp if you do some work to them. im not too up on fuel injection engines, so maybe im talking about stuff thats too old for what you want.

Well I definately know i don't wnat a 6 cyl, i'm not saying anything bad about them, it's just that I have a custom exhaust and the 6 woulden't give it the sound i'm lookin for. I would rather stay with an 8 cyl... 302 or 351W???I don't know which...i've decided to go with a short block eathier way so if i do go eith that 351W what all will have to be done for the conversion??? Will i be able to use any of the undamaged parts on my 302??? If not that's no big deal...i'm wanting to spend 1000-2500 on the block and there's not a limit on all the other parts that i will have to buy. I'm 18 and i'm doing all of this BY MYSELF , i'm proud of myself!!!!Anyway, if you could give me a little help on choosing the best parts for a decent amount of torque and hp, this truck will be used mostly for street and hwy driving, very minimal towing or hauling, and of course there will be that occasional...wink, wink...lead foot!!!

Jason, what year and model truck do you have? If you go with a 351W you will need a donor engine from the salvage yard to supply you with the intake manifold, oil pan, etc to fit it. Of course it looks like you will need a bit of items for a 302 as well since it looks like your oil pan etc. is shot also for your 5.0.
