U-Haul goes to G.M.

More and more you see the medium duty trucks going to the Chevrolet line with the Duramax diesel.

Is Ford loosing its market share in the medium duty range?

If U-Haul is like most other companies, they go with low bid.

It's all about the penny pinchers in the office, low bid wins 95% of the time.

Many companies and government agencies require that the contracto goes to the low bidder as long as it meets the outlined specifications. This may or may not be the most economical decision in the long run (considering repairs, upkeep, etc) but it helps deter fraud (bribes, kickbacks, cronyism, etc).

I've noticed U-haul has been converting over to GM from Ford in the light duty stuff for several years now. It is probably a competitive bid situation. GM has the lions share of the car rental market for the same reason, otherwise Pontiac would have been killed before Oldsmoblile.

The rental car market is an interesting story, because the car makers own large stakes in those companies. As far as U-Haul is concerned, that's strictly a low-bid situation.

The Kodiak series has been winning friends in the medium-duty market. I'm not sure if that's really taking market share away, though- we're seeing a lot of commercial users shifting away from 25-35 series trucks and going into Medium-Duties.

Nope- I wouldn't know where that market is for a pickup, per se. We sell 450's/550's/Kodiak's as Cab/Chassis versions, and the get a body upfit after they're here (Flatbed or cube-box are the most common). We actually stock 'em when we can (both Ford and GM's are tough to come by).

It was more of a rhetorical question if you get my drift...
