K1500 325 vs F150 330 4x4
Ok some people think that a Chevrolet 325 can "beat" a Ford 330, but the facts are...
Ford 330 in a F150 8'bed 4x4
5540 # Truck
300 HP/ 365ftlbs. torque
= 18.4hp per lb. 15.17 ftlbs per lb.
Chevrolet 325ci K1500 8' bed 4x4
4661# truck
295hp 330 ftlbs torque
= 15.8 hp/lb 14.12 ftlbs per lb.
Ford can carry 2660 lbs in bed
Chevrolet can carry 1739lbs in bed
Tell me what you think.

Math Error
5540 # Truck
300 HP/ 365ftlbs. torque
= .054hp per lb. .065 ftlbs per lb.
Chevrolet 325ci K1500 8' bed 4x4
4661# truck
295hp 330 ftlbs torque
= .063 hp/lb .07 ftlbs per lb.
Well first of all sorry about that STUPID mistake!!!
now that you do the math correct it changes things a bit and makes the two trucks more the same!!

Im pretty sure the Truck World 1/2 ton competiton test has been posted before, but here it is again:
http://www.truckworld.com/Truck-Tests/04-4way/04-4way-num.html
On that day, the Silverado was the slowest by far. Those trucks were all 4x4 but did not have the 8 foot bed. But wouldn't the conclusions still hold relative to each other even if the absolute times might be a little different in the two door long bed versions?

Well coming from someone who has owned both the 5.3 and the 5.4 I personally think that the 5.3 is quicker, and for daily driver purposes the 5.4 i had sucked gas like a hog the 5.3 is just a little more fuel efficent.( it may be because that the 5.4 was a 99). Another thing is the 5.4 seems like i always had i stuck in the mud and always the left front right rear b/s. The gmc i have has a locking diff instead of the limited slip. limited slip on any vehical imo is not worth the money to have, and if im correct gm is the only company with a locker from the factory. correct me if im wrong. So in those categorys the 5.3 is better. transmission wise is another story, lets just say im not impressed with the 5.3. it just feels too sloppy for me. the 5.4 on the other hand had a more firm feel to it. Overall though i think its a matter of prefference of if your a ford or gm person. i personally liked them both because neither one really blew the other one away in any category other than the tracton cat.

I am almost sure the 5.4 would take the 5.3. Someone who owns one of each should do a real comparison. But, why would you want to? I think a better test of GM vs. Ford would be to race the new 05 Mustang GT against a new 05 Camaro Z28 or a new 05 Trans Am. That would be interesting. Good Luck!

Odd, because Car and Driver tested the same Silverado, and it beat the 5.4 by about 1/2 second on the zero to 60. I've driven both...extensively...and while I really like the F150, it is sluggish compared to a 5.3 in Silverado, especially from 0 to about 30. The 5.3 is now at 315 hp instead of the 295 version tested. Suspension comments are valid about the Chevy though- the Z71 tightens up a lot of the mushiness.
edit- wonder what axle ratio they were using in the Chebbie? 3.42 (Nebraska gears) are standard, but 4.10's are the tip for towing and our "little hills" we have around here.

You know, it might have beat the 5.4 by 1/2 second, but who knows what gears were in each and the driver can make a big difference. I looked at the Chevy Z71 and SS pickup before buying my 04 F150 and it felt and looked like 1980 stuff to me. I do not mind going a half second slower to get to 60 MPH in my Ford.
