Well i dont like to many ricers but my dad is gonna be gettin a new vehicle soon and today he test drove an s2000 and then i drove it when we were gettin on the high way the salesmen/owner (it was his personal car only one there) he told me to put it in second and punch it I did and then rice went flyin everywhere and the took off shifted to third at about 7500rpm and was shortly goin 30mph over the speedlimit. I have to say i really really like that car. Then we test drove a jeep and a mitsubishi eclipse and they were both (removed by admin). I dont know what my point is here just ramblin on oh well later

Ya'll must be easily impressed!!! Try a V8 Mustang, a Focus SVT (the thing is quick and turns on rails), a Lightning, etc. Or even a Corvette. People who are impressed by Rice have never felt a properly tuned and geared V8 shifting from 2nd to 3rd. The Corvette even goes so far as to state in the owner manual to keep your head on the head-rest because the car can cause neck injury from shifting.

Sorry ken about that. We are supposed to go try and find a lightining, a mustang, and i think he wants to look at a subaru wrx. Im sure a corvette would be his first choice (chebbie person) but its way out of the price range. S2000's are hondas new sports car roadster type vehicle with a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder that makes 240hp i think they are aluminum chassis and body which is a good reason for why they move so quick. I would still rather us get a lightining(my first choice) or a mustang i was just saying that i have a new found respect for some of the rice burners

240 HP? Ooooohhhhhh..... ahhhhhhhhhhh........ The Honda makes ONLY 153 ft/lbs of torque and its peak HP is at 8,300 RPM.

For comparison, a Mustang GT makes 260 HP at 5250 RPM and 300 ft/lbs of torque at 4000 RPM. The Honda HP is way up in the RPM curve, useless on the street. Plus the Honda has very little torque (which is what gets you moving quickly at lower speeds).

The Mustang GT's price is $27,615. The Honda? $32,740. Plus the Honda is selling for far more than MSRP: $36,420 is the street cost right now.

I'll put the Mustang up against the Honda any day, plus you get much more bang for the buck.... you'll have thousands left over to add another 100hp to it. Not only that, but you wont be in a rice burner. Sorry, but I won't even step on a Honda lot, much less consider buying one.... just my two cents....

Have you ever driven a GT, Cobra or Lightning? Try it... you'll never again be impressed by a S2000.

Hey Ken, I've driven them all (former valet parker). I'm kinda with you. I prefer V8, but the Honda S2000 is one great sports car. You don't need 300 ft/lbs of torque when the car weight is only about 2000 lbs. And I'm a firm believer that a sports car handles well, not just accelerates well. Which the Honda does better than anything Ford puts out (stock/showroom available anyway). However, the S2000 doesn't have anywhere near the neck-snapping low-end acceleration of a mustang or the lightning, and that would put me off. And I'm not easily impressed either. I've driven over 120,000 different cars close to a million miles (not EACH, obviously). The honda is an attempt to recreate the classic sports car. Meaning 1940's or 50's liteweight open coupe with a high-revving engine. Just like the miata. In these cars, handling and nimbleness defined "sport" not straight line acceleration.

I guess I'm biased because I own a Honda (motorcycle at least) which is much faster than anything mentioned here. If you want speed at a decent cost, you gotta go with the right equipment. 160mph top speed - 10.8 @ 128mph in the quarter - 0-60 in 3 sec. - 40 mpg - $8000. Can't beat that.

LAST EDITED ON 09-Sep-01 AT 08:56 PM (EST)[p] No i havent driven a gt cobra or lightining yet. We are supposed to go there next saturday because we ran out of time and none of our local dealerships have a lightining so this week im supposed to call around and try to find one. I guess it just felt quick because all ive been driving is that stupid chevy. I dont think im gonna be driving anything for a while because i messed my knee up real bad today bmx racing. The honda is very light and it revs quick so the power is more useful than you would think it is. Im sorry but nobody answered my question in the lightining board im just wondering what kind of fuel mileage it gets

How about a 300+ hp Focus? That ought to make your knee feel better. Ford has built one, but it took a lot of exotic material and was very pricey (it looked very cool). They probably won't produce it, But if they did it would destroy a lot of cars out there. It does show that it's been done, and is possible.

I get chills just thinking about it. 1, 2, 3, 4, would be full power burn outs.

More important than revs is torque at a given rev. Doesn't matter if something has 500 HP if its at 19,000 rpm. That's why Ford's 427 SOHC was so great.... 625 HP at V8 revs..... Now that's power!

You might be able to get decent power form a 4cylinder, but you'll never come close to the V8 rumble....

I just talked to a guy in Texas that bought a new Lightning last week, He says he hasn't stopped smiling yet, even in his sleep.
