I have a '92 Ford F-150, 4x4 with a 302 engine. I have been having trouble with my starter staying engaged after the truck is started. You can cut the switch off and the starter will continue to crank. I have actually had to take the ground cable off the battery to kill the starter. After it stops, you can put the ground cable back on and restart the engine and the starter will be ok. I have changed the starter solenoid on the inner fender and the problem went away for about two months but it has started doing it again. Has anyone had problems with the small starters or starter solenoids acting like this?

 

When you changed the solenoid,did you follow the paper included with the part,if one, on the position of the battery cable ? I do know,for a Standard part, the battery cable has a specific post that is detailed on the drawing on the paper. This is to prevent fusion of the contacts through arcing in a certain direction.Very important ! But I can also say that Standard did recall a bunch of SS588 solenoids(not ss588t-generic or ss588x-blue streak) because of defects. How many of them didn't go back to the manufacture and are still in circulation is hard to tell.Get you another solenoid and try to spend $15 or more,don't settle for a generic one.
