mpg problem, take 4
Thanks for earlier replies to this ongoing post/problem. Had my Cat checked at 2 independent exhaust shops today...it checks out okay. Replaced EGR valve (it now holds steady vacuum) and rechecked EVP sensor (okay) and EVR (not okay, not holding vacuum). Tomorrow I'll replace EVR and hope this helps correct my engine's rich mixture and poor mpg...have used 1/2 tank since fill up and only gone 100 miles. Engine self test keeps setting a 22 or MAP sensor code, but this sensor passes all tests in manuals??!! If EVR doesn't do the job, guess I'll have the fuel rail pressure checked. Probably need to clean O2 sensor, too, as it is probably black from fouling. Any inputs, ideas, opinions welcome. Thanks for all replies.

Tm ,
If the Map sensor is still sending codes and it checks out ok ...look at its wiring .Its not always the sensor that sets the codes . If the computer isnt getting the info from the sensor , it doesnt know the difference . One other thing ...Id be careful cleaning the sensor , wiping the soot of is about all Id do with it . Id be hesitant to spray it with anything ... It generates its own signal and its easy to muck them up using any kind of spray cleaner . Some may disagree , but this is what I have been told . Those things are too $$$ to mess up . I hope you get her back in shape .

On a side note, I've read in Chiltons that ince a sensor sets a code, it takes several start-and-warm-up cycles before it will clear the fault code. I think it was 40 cycles, but not too sure. You may be fine, but the EEC-IV is still giving you grief.
Hope this helps!
