Paint code for Panel behind Front bumper on a CC
All: Does anyone know the paint code number for the horizontal panel filling the space between the back of the front bumper and the bottom of the grille. My 66 F250 CC has been repainted and the panel covered in the body color. I believe the correct color is a satin-finish aluminum shade. Any ideas appreciated. Jeff

I have been wondering the same thing myself as mine too was originally the silver/aluminum color too....
I just went thru my handy dandy master parts book....and I found a color they cal....wouldnt ya know it...aluminum....used from 65 on it says...in 1 pint can.....sounds like just enough to basicly redo the valance....its part number is AE61 1724E
I have seen many of the panels shot in body color....my hunch is the aluminum valance is a part of the C/C and/or C/S package....I think its a part of the chrome grille/or bumper options to highlight them a bit more...If you look underneath the panelthere should be color there....I have also noticed a peculiar thing I have determined is a little part that goes along with the chrome grille...according to my 65 parts/accy book....in the center underneath of valance, theres a small reinforcement held on by 2 sheet metal screws...on attaches to the core sup't, the other to the horizontal lip thats under the bumper on leading edge of the valance....
My question, for 65/6 guys is, if you go look at your rigs that you know have an original chrome grille....do you have this lil bracket or holes....the bracket is bout 1 1/2" w X 3-3 1/2" long....painted black....I think it has something to do with stabilizing the lower area of the grill....Let me know...

Cs65- That 1724 code is for black. I recognized it right away. Some things you never forget! I looked thru my books and the only aluminium colr was for Canadian useage. It's code 73 and it's called Aluminium ( high sparkle) , part number CD2AZ 19503-H . I don't have an OSI book to check on supercession of that number. For USA numbers, you drop that "C" in the front of the number. I have a gut feeling that this color is now considered "Argent Silver". There's 2, a light and dark. You can get it at any dealer. Comes in a big spray can. All the 68-97 rear truck painted bumpers were this shade. Perhaps someone can post a close up pic of the actual color they've found.

Barry..I got the monster opened up....that 1724 code is for all....its listed as acrylic enamel tints, 1 pint cans...as typical, the letter suffix is the difference....runs A thru L minus I....black is an L suffix...A is white and so on...the yrs are for 65 fwd according to the book...an 11/68 issue btw....
weird thing is, that is the only place that color is shown period....regardless of qty or anything...weird indeed....

That is weird because if you were to go order that paint, you'd get black, garanteed! The Ford paints have gone from the M codes to the AR60, AE60 to AL81 codes now, but the numbers (1724, etc..) have not changed. They all end in the letter A for 3oz bottle, S for 6oz spray, P for 15oz spray and C for qt can. Now, all you can get are the 3oz touch up tubes because of Hazard rules. I think that's a misprint or typo. Someone set that page up wrong. The Canadian books had a different system of numbers also. I'd really like to see a close up color pic of the original paint to determine what colr it is.
