Surface Rust On Chrome Bumpers

We just took our truck in for it's first oil change after only
owning it for three months.

We took it to the dealer who treated us really well, but the
mechanic pointed out that there is some surface rust starting
on both bumpers - should come off with some cleaner, but still!

The mechanic checked with his manager to see if there's anything
that they could do and there seemed to be nothing...

We purchased the paint protection package when we bought the
truck, but that only covers the paint, not the chrome!

Anyone else have this issue? Any luck with any support from Ford or
dealers?

Thanks!
Scott

Is this rust under the chrome, or rust on the surface? If this truck travelled by rail, you could have surface rusting from iron particles kicked up on the train.

Just surface rust... wouldn't the dealer have taken care of that
when they detailed it out?

Thanks!

I found the same problem with mine. It was surface, but until I got it off I wasn't a happy camper. I couldn't believe I was seeing rust on a truck bought in Sep. All's well now though.

Surface rust

I have an 04 F150 SC SC that we picked up last May. It didn't show any rust on the chrome bumper until recently after washing. I don't know if it's related to road salt or sand from its first Canadian winter but I was equally alarmed when I saw it. I was able to able to get rid of the rust specks with a chamois after the wash but I am wondering if there is any way to treat the chrome to better protect against this.

One way to prevent the chrome from rusting is to keep it coated with WD-40. I do this to my exhaust tips, especially in the winter, bc of the salt on the roads in Ohio. The only problem with this route is that small dirt particles and dust stick to the chrome easier, although it wipes right off with a dry soft cloth. The WD-40 can also can give the chrome a kind of cloudy look. It doesnt affect the chrome itself, it just does it when the WD-40 is on the there bc the oil kind of distorts the shine.
