I just bought a 1973 460 out of a 1973 motorhome that has only 63,000 miles on it. What are the odds that this engine would have a 4 bolt main? I am going to re ring it and put new bearings and gaskets in it since the seals are probably getting pretty old anyway. Should I put a cloyes timing chain in it and run it 4 deg advanced or run it straight up? Don
The only thing i think you may find different from a car engine is the connecting rods. You should have the stronger foot ball rod bolts in the rods. Can't help with the rest.
it will not have a four bolt main. the only put those in some 429 cobra jet blocks and the 429 boss. only way to tell on the cobra jet is to pull the oil pan and on the boss youll know it when you see it.
The CJ motors were only 2 bolt mains. The SCJ got the 4 bolt mains and of course the Boss429 which had a little extra. I was unsure of ford ever put them in anything else.
the 427 cammers had six bolt mains! thats crazy. a 460 stock bottom end, 2 bolt main, can handle a lot. i think its 600+ hp or close to it without a problem.
