78-79 column in a 73 F250.

On my buddys 73 F250 4x4, the auto the parking lock thing is worn out. I what to know if a 78-79 auto column will bolt in with no fab work? what do i need to get a column out of? And if the wiring connector is the same? I know that 77 and 78 wires are different colors but its wired the same and the connector is the same.
I already searched.

Wiring is different.
4-ways switch is on the column on the 78/79.

There are numerous threads about this in this forum,

I'm pretty sure that the 73 has the 4 ways on the column too.

73's do have the 4 way flashers on the collum. I've had 2 73's and both were that way.
I currently have a 73 F100 with a 79 model 2 wheel drive collum in mine.

Yes the column will work but the 78/9 have a shroud that goes down to the dash and the column looks odd without it so be sure to get it too. The only other difference is the wiring and steering wheel. The horn wiring changed on the 78/9 as Ford eliminated the horn relay. This is no problem as all you have to do is take of teh 78/9 horn pad and there will be two wires hooked to it. Unplug one and ground it while squexxing the horn button. If the horn goes off then that is the wire that needs to be grounded, If the horn does not honk plug the wire back in and try it with the other wire. Once you have determined which wire needs to be grounded all I do is bend the terminal a little so that it can be forced into one of the threded holes for a puller. This works fine and my 77 has been like this since 1995! Hawkrod
