remanufactured PCM's are they dependable

My 02 7.3 has a hard to start condition that has been traced to a burned position on the PCM. My question for everyone is whether or not the savings between new and remanufactured PCM's is worth the money. My fear is that the price difference equals only a short time before the reman'd component fails. Do you have any experience with reman'd PCM's?

You might check with ford to ensure that their PCM isn't remaned with a Ford sticker. I just replaced the GEM (00 F250). the parts guy noted, "it's a reman so there is a core charge." He couldn't tell me who Ford uses to rebuild the ones they sell (he didn't know)

I believe some of the places I was looking into to rebuild my GEM (also rebuild PCMs) offer a warranty.
Our GEMs and PCMs are becoming rather rare and it seems the reman market is all there really is. I've been told Ford no longer supports the 00 f250 7.3 (electric wise) - which makes me wonder about other models in the same generation. IDK.

I had to replace the PCM on my Ranger last year. There were not an new ones available for an 04, only rebuilt ones from FMC or anyone else.

I have use a reman pcm in a Mustang before, nothing wrong with them, they are well tested.

And as stated, you may not have any other choice as nobody builds new pcm's for older vehicles, just reman's.

Thanks for the input guys. Our local ford dealer stated that as far as they know the PCM from them would be new not remfg'd. However only a one year warranty. Found AUto Module Source (AMS) on eBay with lifetime warranty for less than half og the dealer. We will see how this works out.

FYI, I do believe their warranty is void if it suffers any water damage or if you chip the pcm.

Less than 1 year later, my remanufactured Ford PCM is not commanding the Ranger to shift to 2nd gear from 1st, but from 1st to 3rd.
