clicking sound

I have a 97 f-150, 5.4, 4x4. When I start my truck in the morning it makes a quick click, click, click sound right after it starts. It only does this after truck sits for a few hours. After engine starts ,I can turn off & re-start & it won't make this sound until the next morning. Is there any type of vacumn canister under hood that could be making this sound? Has anyone ever heard this sound or anything like this? Let me know!!

You may want to check your spark plugs. And read up on blown plugs in the 4.6 section of this forum. Theres at least one post there about the clicking sound being a sign of a plug about to blow.

what viscosity oil do you run? how many miles does the truck have on it? depending where the sound is it may be your valvetrain.

I had the same issue using 10w30 Mobil 1, but only in the winter months here in North Texas. I switched to 5w30 Mobil 1 a few years ago and it rarely happens now. Also make sure you use a good quality oil filter such as Wix or Champion. I personally use and recommend Motorcraft FL820S filters which could be made by either Wix or Champion made depending on the lot.

When mine made the clicking noise it wasn't just click, click, click and then gone. It was 3 or 4 louder clicks then tapered off and was totally gone after about 10 clicks or so.
