just wondering how to get to the trim off to get to the mounting screws...

 

pull firmly on dash piece, clips are very strong. i started at bottom gently working up

 

I popped the small side panels off and went under the dash and used long pliers because the clips were very tight.

 

the big woodgrain trim piece is just clipped on? Any idea how many?

 

Should be six.

Take out your ash tray , there should be 2 clips on the bottom, 2 near the bend and 2 on top. Once you get the 2 on the bottom clip out the other 4 clips are easy. Just take your time on taking it off because the clips are very tight, once off the there should a 4 X 7mm screws holding on to the radio, don't forget to remove the air bag indicator too.

 

pull hard on the trim panel. pull untill you think it is going to break, and just before it breaks, the clips give way and release. scares me everytime I do it.

 

I did mine tonight, I tried about 10 times and thought I was going to break it, but it poped off after a bit of pulling.
Saved 50 bucks from what the shop wanted to install it.
Next are the door panels for speakers, power windows & keyless entry
