im building a mud truck i got dana 60 front and rear. my problem that i have is that the highest that i have found for the front is 5.38 i wanted to go numerical higher then that so my question is how close should the gears be if its strickly for offroad mud use cause i put a 5.38 in the front while a 6 or 7 ratio in the rear?

im planing on useing 44 boggers or at leats 38.5 because thats what i have now

Well my un-educated guess would be to say "no", that is too far apart of a gear ratio. I would try and stay at with a difference of no more than 10%.

There was a discussion about this very subject not too long ago in the Offroad forum. Search the posts there on that forum.

 

The ratios must be within 1% of each other. So a 5.38 and something in the 6s or 7s will be too far apart. Where are you looking? There shouldn't be much problem finding gears that low for a Dana 60.
