Overdrive Off Switch Not Working

I Have A 2000 F250 Sd, Just Bought It. My First Ford. Anyway, The Overdrive Off Button On The Shifter Is Not Working. The Light Doesn't Come On And The Tranny Doesnt Kick Out Of Overdrive. I Have Replaced Switch Assy With A Known Good One, As Well As Checked The Fuse ( 10 Amp, # 19 On Panel). Any Suggestions?

The wire to the switch is broken in the steering column, right about where the column tilts.

Mine works intermittently. I always thought it was just the light not working properly. Been that way since I got it 2 years ago (used).
So how do we replace it & how difficult of a job is it? I hate dealing with the airbags in the steering wheel...

No need to pull the air bag or wheel.

Disconect the battery cables. Remove the screws (3) from bottom on the plastic column cover and remove the lower section. Insert your ign key and turn the key to the "on" position. Looking from the bottom up at the ign cylinder the is a small hole/bore,(~3/16 dia) insert a small pin puch in the hole, this will release the cylinder asm, pull the asm straight out. Remove the upper colume cover. Follow the wires for the OD switch to locate your "broken wire".
The cut or brake can be very small. I had one with a brake in the insulation just big enough for two strands of wire to ground out.
Good luck.
