Thats a bit low for a 3/4 ton your choke must be stuck on or the carb needs some attention but don't expect much more than 7-8 mpg my F-Superduty I has was 460 powered it got 6mpg M/T. One thing about 460s you got the power but you have to trade off the good mileage for it.

My 84 250 4x4 gets about that with a 309 six in it- no tread on the back tires though. The 460 was not designed to be anything other than a torque monster. This is an engine that on a rainy day, sitting in gear at a stop, the rear tires will continue to turn(very slowly). In all seriousness, if you are going 0-35 every mile or two, that engine will get thirsty.

In my 86 F350 crew cab dually with 4.10 gears I get 6.5 mpg empty, city, freeway, towing, loaded, flatlands, mountains, conservatively driving or with my foot burried in the 4 bbl. It don't matter. It gets 6.5 mpg no matter what I do. The dual rear wheels cost me though, so if you get 6 with a 250 SRW, you could get better, but not much.

I somehow manage 15 MPG highway with my 460, but in the city, I've used 1/4 tank to go 5 miles... I think the 3.55's are what make for the decent highway mileage, it sounds even better on the Canadian 4.546L Gallon... 18 MPG... Heh

LOL... I don't think they'd want the truck too close to a museum just yet... It's plenty ugly, and, due to a leaking accelerator pump that I didn't notice, it has a very leaky carb, a whole bunch of vacuum lines that leak and a very toasted engine harness... Only caught fire on me twice... Once 30 miles out in the bush, and again pulling in the driveway while I was limping it home...
