It can vary a lot if you are 4x4, tire size, what trans you have and what kind of use the truck sees.

8 MPG. No better than 12, no worse than 4 depending on driving.

Ymmv.

I can't find a 'truck like you describe in fuel.gov, but the closest listed is an '89 F250 4x4 5.8 3 speed auto rated at 10 city, 12 highway, 11 combined.

I think the fuel.gov site has the same answer as everyone else: "You have a 460 and you're asking about gas mileage?"

What gear ratio?
What tire size?
What are your driving habits?

In my spare time, I've been going from the last page of this sub-forum and working backwards towards the first to read topics I find interesting. No topic seems to have come up more often in the last 10-15 years than the "What kind of mileage will my 460 get?" or similar. Google "460 mileage ford truck forum" or something similar and read for days.

It's all relative. What do YOU consider good or bad? What are your expectations?

My F350 standard cab, 3:55's, and 5-speed has seen 14mpg, and it has also seen 8mpg. On 4 long trips from Ohio to the UP of Michigan with a snowmobile in back and other random gear...say 750lbs extra...I see 10.5mpg pretty consistently.

they're really not setup for performance or mileage.they're choked up versions of days gone by.expect 8 mpg and hope for 10.

Used to get 14 on highway with mine fairly consistently. Since I had engine rebuilt last year it's dropped to 12 on highway, guessing they set the timing to factory settings. 93 250 4wd zf5.

My '93 7.5L with 4.10 rear end and 115,000 miles gets around 11 on the highway driving 80. Gets about the same driving 65 . In town mixed it gets 8-9. When I'm driving mostly ranch roads the mileage gets down to 6. I've only done light towing so can't comment on the mileage when pulling.

thanks great info well its got 4:10s and its an auto with stock tires so im guessing it would get 8mpg.I was thinking of buying it for a daily driver around town and to work because its in mint shape almost.but 8mpg is pretty bad so ill be looking for a truck with a 351w im kinda stuck on ford trucks these years I really like them.im guessing you guys don't use your for daily driving do you?just my 2 cents.

You should get better than 8; although not by much, unless it's all stop-and-go driving. A 351 won't keep much more money in your pocket over a 460; I've had both, and would pick the 460 any day, stock for stock.

Seems the 351 is good for maybe 2 MPG more than a typical 460. If you want better MPG, go diesel.
