They would either be the T-18 or the NP435.

If you're building the truck... The T-18 is more popular amoung 4x4 enthusiast types- I think it's stonger. I have an NP435, though, with 240,000 miles and it works fine.

If the 4-spd tranny is a cast iron case with an aluminum top on it it is a NP435. If it is ann cast with a steel top or cast top it could be either the T-18 or the T-19

if it has PTO covers on both sides its a T-19.

np435 has the lowest unsycronized 1st gear.
T18 has a higher unsycronized 1st gear
T-19 comes is a couple configurations , a close ratio and a wide ratio. the wide ratio has a sycronized granny 1st gear. the close ratio has a sycronized 1st gear.

the T-18, T19 are concidered stronger because they were both used as OEM in medium duty trucks. the NP435 was only ever offered in light duty trucks.

While the others are concidered stronger, the NP435 is one tough transmission.
