360, 390, or 428?

Well first let me ask if your 360 heads have been rebuilt or ported new valves etc...? Or are they the same C8-H casting? If your using the stock cam or a mild cam in most cases a fresh set of oem springs will be fine. It's when you get into higher lift cams the springs need to be more heavy duty and a higher pressure rate. If you run a high lift cam with a lesser/softer springs the coils of the springs will bind under the increased lift of the cam. This is not good. So a higher tension rate of spring is used. Sometimes one or two inner springs are added for higher performance and extreme applications. Most cam companys will recommend springs to match their cams. You can often purchase them in a kit. Cam, lifters, springs, retainers etc... nicely matched. There is much more to all of this but for now this is the basic concept. G.

Also remember hardened exhaust valve seats - D2TE heads were the only ones to come with hardened seats, and from what I've heard, if you run C8AE heads (un-modified) without the hardened seats, the valve will recess into the head within 10-20K miles.
So, it would be worth it to get the seats done... unless that 360 has the D2TE heads?
