Help With 99 6 speed

Does anyone know an easy way to get the shifter ball off the shifter?I need to replace the shifter boot it is cracked and annoying! PLEASE HELP!

I do know that the balll is not threaded so don't try to turn it. I know this because mine fell off when I got it. I just glued it back on. It has splines, so it needs to be pulled straight up. HTH.

Any idea how hard i have to pull(hit) it to get it to come off

It will come off hard, and when it comes off it will need to be glued back on.

Why force the ball off when you can lift up the boot and unbolt the whole handle from the transmission? Two bolts and it's off.

Do you know what size the star/torx screws are?
