Ham Operators: 2M/440 in Truck
For the hams that operate on 2m/440 in their trucks, how do most of you have your antenna set up? Such as the case if you have a 5/8's wave 2 meter antenna.
Do you use just mag mount, attach it to the bedrails, or drill holes in the roof and use Motorola style NMO mounts? If you're a thru-glass user I've had one and will never again. Had an Antenna Specialists 2m/440 thru-glass and it went bad. SWR jumped over 10:1 and nearly fried my TH-75A.

Most the ones I see are bed mounted. It's been a few years since I worked on hams. But most never did the Mag mount cause the easy thief of it. If your SWR jumped to 10:1 it should have fried anyways, feel lucky and throw a few bucks in the collection tray, Most never get a second chance.
Do a search on 2Meter/440 and see if there are any forums to look at.

I have a tri-band 2/220/440 mounted on a trunk lip mount that is connected to the drivers side hood near the windshield. When the hood is opened, it clears the windshied fine. It loads up good, and works fine, but it is kind of a theft problem, as it is easily in reach. Still thinking of a way to secure it.
